Summary
Mr D hired a plug-in hybrid car through DreamLease in August 2025 and complained in October 2025 that it was supplied without a charging cable. Mr D claimed he was told the cable could be plugged into a normal socket and would be included, but the delivery driver informed him no cable was provided. DreamLease confirmed the car model is supplied by the manufacturer without a charging cable as standard and that no commitment was made to provide one. The ombudsman found insufficient evidence of misrepresentation or mis-selling and did not uphold the complaint, declining to order reimbursement for the £76.70 Mr D spent on a charging cable.
The Ombudsman's reasoning
The ombudsman found no evidence that DreamLease told Mr D a charging cable would be supplied with the car or that the car was misrepresented. While Mr D's expectation that a charging cable would be included is understandable, there was insufficient evidence to demonstrate misrepresentation or mis-selling. The manufacturer supplies this model without a charging cable as standard, and it is an optional accessory.
